Students who have another language listed other than English on their Home Language Survey and are determined to be English learners are offered ESL when enrolled at North Lamar.

In pre-kindergarten through grade 2, ESL students are served in a content-based ESL program model.  The teachers are ESL certified, or working to obtain ESL certification.

In grades 3 - 5, the English Language Arts and Reading teachers are ESL certified and serve students by providing intensive instruction in English in their classes in a pull-out model.

Pre-kindergarten through grade 5 ESL participants are also provided an additional ESL time period that provides English Language Arts instruction by an elementary ESL teacher who is certified in ELAR and ESL.

For secondary ESL students in grades 6 - 12,  ESL students are served by providing intensive instruction in their English classes by English Language Arts and Reading teachers.

The ESL Coordinator as well as the ESL teachers continue to promote students' English language development and academic growth through the year.
