All About Enrollment

In Texas, students must be enrolled in public school by their natural parent, legal guardian, or another person with legal control under a court order. The individual enrolling the student is typically required to present valid identification, such as a driver's license or state-issued ID, at the time of enrollment.

To enroll your child at North Lamar ISD for kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year, you'll typically need to provide the following documents:

  • Proof of the Child's Identity:

    • Student’s official birth certificate and social security card

 

  • Proof of Residency:

    • A current utility bill (electric, water, or gas) showing the parent or guardian's name and address.

 

  • Immunization Records:

    • A complete and up-to-date immunization record for the child.

 

  • Parent or Guardian Identification:

    • A government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or state ID card.

 

 

  • Previous School Records (if applicable):

    • If your child has attended school previously, bring records such as report cards or withdrawal forms from the last school attended.

 

  • Proof of Income
    • If your child is registering for PreK 3 or PreK 4, we will need paystubs from the past 2 months or your most recent tax return.  If you do not qualify for PreK, we do offer a tuition-based enrollment.

Enrollment FAQs

  • To qualify for Pre-K in Texas public schools, a child must be four years old on or before September 1 of the school year for PreK 4 classes or three years old on or before September 1 and meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

    • Limited English Proficiency – The child must qualify as an English learner.
    • Economically Disadvantaged – The family must meet income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced-price meals.
    • Homelessness – The child must be identified as homeless under the McKinney-Vento Act.
    • Foster Care – The child is currently or has previously been in the Texas foster care system.
    • Military Family – The child is the dependent of an active-duty, injured, or deceased member of the U.S. military.
    • Star of Texas Award Recipient – The child’s parent or guardian has received the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer, firefighter, or emergency medical first responder.

     

    North Lamar ISD also provides a tuition-based Pre-K option for families who do not meet the above eligibility criteria, available until all spots are filled.

  • There is no official deadline to register students; however, teacher assignments and staffing decisions are based on enrollment numbers. To ensure we have enough high-quality staff and to secure your child’s spot, we encourage early registration.

  • Our NLISD Zoning Map defines which area will attend Parker Elementary for PreK-4th grade and which area will attend Higgins Elementary and North Lamar Intermediate for PreK-4th grade,  All 5th grade students will attend North Lamar Intermediate.  Our 6-8 grade students will attend Stone Middle School and 9-12 grade students will attend North Lamar High School.

  • As part of our commitment to the 2021 bond, we are excited to announce the transition of our PreK 3 – 1st grade students to the newly remodeled Everett Elementary.  The renovations at Everett are on schedule to be completed by July 2025, meaning that students enrolling for thefall 2025 school year will be the first class to attend the new campus. 

    This transition reflects our dedication to providing modern, high-quality learning environments for our youngest Panthers. More details about the move, including logistics and parent resources, will be shared as we approach the opening date.

  • Our first day of school will be August 5, 2025.  We will continue the 4 day week with Mondays off for the 2025-2026 school year.
